A Vacation for Everyone

“Peace fell upon her spirit. Strong comfort and assurance bathed her whole being. Life was so solid and splendid, and so good.”

— THOMAS WOLFE, YOU CAN'T GO HOME AGAIN

Trunk Bay is my happy place. We visited this beautiful beach on our honeymoon 12 years ago. I longed to one day see it again. Life happened. Obstacles and challenges grew so big that I brushed aside any hopes of finding my way back to this paradise. I watched from my computer as friends were able to travel alone, or with their spouse, or (even crazier) with their children to places that we would not be able to visit because of our circumstances.⁣

Then something happened last summer. A diagnosis. My father passing. I decided I needed something BIG to look forward to. So I did my research and I planned an unforgettable vacation (a year out), that was out of our comfort zone. I played to our families strengths and loves, and made assumptions about what we could handle a year later. The result was the best trip our family could have ever imagined. ⁣

An 8 day cruise, stopping in St. Thomas, a 45 minute ferry ride to St. John, followed by a 10 minute open air shuttle, followed by a short walk to the beach, (all the while carrying Rowan in our arms and on our laps), brought me back to Trunk Bay with my husband and our children. ⁣

They say you can’t go home again. This trip taught me to keep dreaming. I imagine what our next picture might look like on this beach and “Peace fell upon her spirit.” ⁣
