Podcast Ep. 3- AACs in the Classroom
The wait is over for the continuation of my conversation with Mindy Youngs and this is info you NEED to hear! After this conversation, I had some big realizations about where I want Rowan to be with her device and the specific steps I need to take in partnering with her school. I even started to dream about all of the possibilities for her at school instead of simply accepting the fact that the progress has and will be painfully slow. She is still not meeting her same old IEP goals that we recycle, re-word, and slightly modify year over year. I desperately want this to change, and I believe that the administration desires the same.
In part one, we tackled hesitations about starting AAC and the different support methods with therapy. This time, we're diving into what it's like to integrate these devices into the classroom. In our latest episode, Mindy Youngs, another apraxia & GAND mom, and I get into the nitty-gritty about utilizing AAC devices in a school setting. Whether you're dealing with LAMP Words for Life, Proloquo2Go, or any other AAC software, these insights are gold.
I hope this conversation will inspire you, like it has me, to aspire for more growth and opportunities at school for our children. If your child is young, it may seem like you have some time but, trust me, the years start to fly by and this is a continuing conversation that needs to be had with the administration. Start today, empowered and equipped with these tools to support you in your conversations.
