Rowan’s 6th Birthday
6 on the Beach! This year we successfully pulled off a family sleepover! We checked into an oceanfront room, invited the grandparents and cousins over for pizza (then allowed them to make their escape), and then we curled up to watch the new Curious George movie. Rowan slept like a baby on an air mattress and we all fell asleep to the sound of the waves crashing. Our first night in a new place is usually a disaster as she struggles to adjust, but this time she went down pretty easily after Chris carried her around outside until she passed out. Here’s a short glimpse of how we celebrated number 6!
Her fears of the birthday song and opening presents have returned in full force. (We’ll be revisiting that topic in ABA therapy to make sure Christmas doesn’t traumatize her.) She has, however, overcome her fear of hats, headbands, and sunglasses.
6 Things we are celebrating this birthday:
🎈She can walk and run long distances on the beach without needing to be carried.
🎈She is thriving in her new school.
🎈Her receptive language is strong.
🎈She is following directions well.
🎈She has overcome fears from last year and is loving dance class
🎈She is finally starting to enjoy books.
6 Things we are working on and hopeful for this next year:
🌸Potty training
🌸Improvement in speech
🌸Tolerating and enjoying some form of adaptive bike riding with us
🌸Continued improvement in swim lessons
🌸Ability to dress herself
🌸Open to trying a few new foods
