Understanding CBD
CBD…is it time? I was too timid when we attempted to try it with Rowan years ago. There was such a stigma around it. I was seeing that families were having success with it in my Facebook groups and yet I was too nervous to talk to our doctor about it. That was 7 years ago and I can no longer ignore countless moms who are telling me it is working for a variety of issues for their children.
In Episode 9 on the podcast, I sit down with Charissa Lynn, a fellow GAND mom and nurse with 18 years experience in emergency medicine. She is also an adjunct instructor for Pennsylvania College of Technology. She’s definitely one who loves to do her research and has been using CBD with her son for the last 8 years. Charissa is a powerhouse of knowledge and first-hand experience and a fierce advocate for her son Tucker. You can see why I couldn’t wait to talk to her!
Despite skepticism from their first physician, Charissa's determination launched them into researching CBD and its potential benefits for Tucker. Curious about the nitty-gritty? Charissa and her husband did their homework, vetting companies for quality and consistency. Rest assured, these folks didn't pick up just any CBD oil from the local gas station! After extensive research, they settled on a reputable brand, ensuring each drop provided consistency. Despite the challenges, Charissa noted improvements in behavior and school performance—a testament to her research and persistence.
This past summer brought growth spurts and their first encounter with seizures. Listen in to hear how CBD was useful as they navigated EEGs and the seizure medication side effect “Keppra rage”.
Wondering if CBD could help your child? Here’s Charissa’s advice: start with your physician and then explore brands that prioritize quality. Consistent testing and transparency from companies are key.
Tucker grew 5 inches last summer but his growth isn’t just measured in inches—his achievements extend into personal independence, school, and even sports. They’re eyeing a bocce ball team for high school, with Tucker ready to hit the court. Tucker has inspired me to add Bocce Ball to Rowan’s birthday wish list so we can also play together as a family.
This journey isn't just about CBD; it's about exploring what's possible for each unique child out there. Charissa’s down-to-earth vibe shone brightly through our chat. Hearing Tucker’s progress is comforting and hopeful. So, here’s to pushing boundaries and exploring new horizons. If you’re considering starting your own exploration with CBD, take Charissa’s advice, learn, adapt, and let the journey unfold. Until next time, stay curious and open to new ideas.
